About Murchison Falls
Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest protected area, covering approximately 3,840 square kilometers. The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45 meters over the dramatic Murchison Falls.
The park boasts exceptional biodiversity with 76 mammal species and 451 bird species. It's one of the best places in Uganda to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino at the nearby Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary).

Getting to Murchison Falls
By Road
The journey from Kampala to Murchison Falls takes approximately 5-6 hours:
- Kampala to Masindi: ~210km (4 hours)
- Masindi to Park Gate: ~85km (1.5 hours)
- Total distance: ~305km (5.5-6 hours)
The road is paved all the way to Masindi, with the final section to the park being a good murram road.
By Air
Charter flights are available from Entebbe or Kajjansi to Pakuba or Bugungu airstrips:
- Flight duration: ~1 hour 15 minutes
- Pakuba Airstrip: Near northern sector lodges
- Bugungu Airstrip: Near Paraa area

Flying saves time but requires booking well in advance during peak seasons (June-August, December-February).
